Default Want to swap out engine

I have an 89 Camaro RS with a 2.8 VG motor. I want to put in a 305 and want to know if I need to change the tranny.

yes, tranny needs to get swapped. the trans behind 2.8 v6's will not bolt to anything else.

you won't be able to use the computer or most of the wire harness from the 2.8 either. 305 will need carb, or wire harness transplant if you plan on fuel injection. driveshafts different. it's an easy swap, you'll just have to get the wiring situated.

Currently I have a fuel injected engine with an auto tranny. I actually want to switch to a 305 carb motor and install manual tranny. I know this is going to cost some money and take a lot of time and swearing. How much HP and performance in general can I realistically obtain though?

actual horsepower depends on the motor, if it's built, stock, tuned. obviously there will be quite a bit more power going from the v6 to a v8. the swap itself isn't all that hard. it will take time and $, but if done right, you should be happy with results.
