Exclamation 1976 caprice flywheel starter problem

i have a 1976 chevy caprice ..it had a 350 in it,and i replaced it with a 1977 chevy c/k 454 motor.i have changed the flywheel and starter,but the starter keeps missing .the starter is from autozone and it the same starter they call for the 350,i have even tried to shim.some people told me that i would need a different starter for a 454,anyone knowws wat the problem could be??

They used different flywheels for different engines - different number of teeth.

Try looking in the Summit catalog.

Had the same problem with a 92. A starter every four months.

I was told (no reason not to believe) my torque converter was out of line.

I had a garage full of starters. Got so good...maybe 20 minutes to change one out.
