1990 caprice wagon terrible power loss over
Hi guys l just bought a 1990 caprice station wagon (307)
I know, I know these cars are slow but this big old barge is a struggle to keep 50mph, I’ll get it to 65 and the slightest incline brings it right back down to 50.
it runs great otherwise, smooth, responsive at lower speeds. Just a real pig at 50 or over..
no strange sounds, no smoke from the exhaust, engine temp keeps around 90-100 degrees C.
transmission shifts smooth as silk, really smooth actually. I was surprised.
At 50-60mph FLAT road throttle half way down is fine. If I try to accelerate more the car slows down considerably, if it hits a hill it slows down considerably.. it doesn’t like you pushing on the pedal., slowly accelerate it does pretty good. Push on it kinda hard and barely wants to move.
it starts right up, cold or hot without problem.
high idle in park
Please don’t say to swap the motor, I want to fix/have this motor run how it should.
thanks
