350 motor
its an 89 chevy caprice with an 305 TBI in it right now. i want to put the 350 in it to get some more HP.. i found a 350 and i want to know what all i need to do to put it in, anything special?
Several years ago I put a '92 350 into my Caprice for the same reason. I was lucky to find a rear end totaled Caprice wagon with aprox the same amount of miles. Even though the 2 motors look identical, the ECU is different. To get more HP, you need to deliver more fuel than what the 305 requires. I think the timing advance is also a bit more agressive for the 350 than for a 305.....again you'll need the correct ECU to do that. If your replacement 350 is older and has a carburetor and an early generation electronic ignition, then you'll need to either purchase the correct late model fuel injection intake manifold and correct distributor...OR run an aftermarket GM designed distributor and put a fuel pressure regulator on the fuel line to bring the pressure down below 10 PSI vs. the 75 PSI the fuel injected engine requires.
Fun, Fun, Fun....but worth it!!

I put a 350 in my 95 TBI And I did not replace anything, ECU is all the same throttle body is all the same, alls I changed was the Prom chip to a 350 and that was 205,xxx miles ago. It had a lot more power then the 305 to! But I did put An aftermarket Flat tappet circle track cam in it, and roller rockers, and bored it .30 over.
