I have a 91 Caprice with a 305 TBI. It wouldn't start, replaced the coil, got it to start, but runs rough and sometimes still won't start. I had a friend do a check on the computer, he said it could be the computer that's bad. It runs fine with the scanner tool hooked up, but not so good without. He said the comp is in diagnostic mode with the scanner in. Here's the question, will it hurt to run the car with the scanner hooked up until I can find another ecm? Does anyone know where the best place to get an ecm?

I like to use Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market, search a lot of local yards, and most will do shipping.

New coil, but what about the rest of the ignition system, especially the coil wire. Check all the stupid stuff first.

Were you getting any service engine soon codes on the scanner ?

Check ALL vacuum lines , hosed and devices . Check ALL electrical and electronic sensors / devices .

With the battery disconnected , carefully unplug and re-plug in the electrical connectors . Maybe , including the computer ?

Did your buddy's scanner find anything wrong / out of the ordinary ?

How many miles on the car / plugs / plug wires ?

God bless
