Default Electrical?

I bought my captiva used in 2013
Driving down the road with the air conditioner on the car shut off and turned back on twice.
Today it did it again but this time the service traction control came up on the screen with the wrench and the amber P came on, not the parking brake.
Well with the car having a mind of its own it would die and reset. Husband cleared codes and it was ok. I had a full tune up done on it at the dealership. That did not fix it. It shakes when it runs. Service traction control comes on, service stabilitrak and check engine light flashes sometimes. Code comes up as a cylinder 2 misfire. Taking it to a mechanic and not the dealership as the dealership is not helpful. He says so far could be the catalytic converter or a valve but gotta look at it. Will update again after he looks at it.

So here I am having the same issues with our 2012 Captiva Sport. I've been reading these posts for the last hour and almost everything is ringing true to the same issues we've been experiencing. First, we bought the vehicle used about a year and a half ago, low mileage and my wife love her car. A few months ago, she would tell me the clock reset, then there were random lights, stabilitrak messages, dash displays seemed to act really weird. As with many others I like to try things firs. I tested the battery (all good), alternator (Good), cables are all tight, added a new ground just to be safe, that seemed to work for a while. Then I drove it for a day last week. Had the clock reset twice, and twice that day I went to start it and turned the key and nothing happened, about 10 seconds go by and everything started right up as if there was no issue. Last week in the pouring rain, my wife got home and couldn't get out of the car, couldn't get the key out, there was nothing on, no lights or anything, nothing was working. I hurried home and got the spare keys and manually unlocked the door so she could get out. I popped the hood and check the batter cables, the positive was really hot to the touch almost burned my fingers, cables were fine. But touching the positive cable seemed to do the trick and everything came back to life again.

I really didn't like where this was going and finally took the car into the chevy dealer. They've had it for 4 days and haven't been able to reproduce the problem driving it around, starting, etc... I've explained all of the above to them. They ran diagnostics and said there are old codes for a BCM issue. Quoted me $926 to replace the BCM with Parts, Labor, and Reprogramming and the $90 diagnostics. I'm really worried that this is a short term fix until the next time and then it will be something else. Doesn't really appear that this issue has been addressed by Chevrolet in any fashion and throwing money into repairs seems to only provide short term fixes.

UPDATE...

Some have privately asked for an update to my issues. I am happy to report that all is well since implementing the "ground fix" show below and documented above. The car is running like a champ now! Understand others are experiencing the same success.

Since my fix (see above post) all is well! Total cost was less than $100.00. Far cheaper than all of the dealership invoices over the years!

Here is a pic of the additional ground wire on the battery side...

Here is a pic of the new ground wire on the alternator side. The other end of this wire is connected to the alternator mount (and NOT the positive terminal on the alternator).

These upgrades were done in addition to the factory wiring. No original wiring was touched so the dealership cannot say that I caused any new problems.

Also, I used this video as a reference.. Makes this a simple upgrade... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnmXKjm3tZE

Hope this helps!

A few months ago, I saw this post when the issues started happening. I followed these steps and added the new grounds. This didn't resolve any of the issues and things are just getting worse. Yesterday was called by the Dealership, they had replaced the BCM for $936. My wife and I went to pick up the car and literally drove one car length and the Service Traction Control and Check Engine light were back on. Walked right back in to the service department. They pulled the car in and hooked up diagnostics and it gave a High Voltage code. Now we wait for more information and $.

I added these ground cables to my Captiva, but still having the same problems. Did you do other repairs? ie. BCM replacement? I really need to figure this out. I need a dependable car and can't afford to get rid of it at this time.

We've done the BCM and it didn't resolve the issue. Still getting High Voltage codes. Dealer has had the car for 2 weeks and we are still waiting to find out what is happening or if they can find the issue.

I added my new grounds right after the replacement of my 2nd BCM. Think it was a $800 repair. My thought process here was that it couldn't hurt anything. Turns out it worked for me and a number of others.

Could be that it was too late and the BCM was already damaged?

I understand your frustration here. It's a sporty / stylish little car. Especially with the v6 engine. It's a shame Chevy won't step up and fix the issues.

Guys, I need to write an essay about cars. I found a site with reviews of services that provide such services, for example - https://edureviewer.com/services/cus...gs-com-review/ . Do you think we can trust them?

I need help, I have a 2012 Chevy Captiva. I am having all the same problems as everyone else on here has listed. Do you possibly have any pictures of where you added the ground to the alternator? I showed my husband the post where you done yours. He just wants a better idea of where each of the ground is located at. If you could get back to me I would greatly appreciate it. I absolutely loved this car until it started all of these problems. Thank you in advance!
