03 cavalier starter spins will not crank
My car sat for 5 days while i was on vacation. I get home try to start it and it cranks but wont start. It sounded and acted as if the battery was almost dead as the lights were dim and engine cranked slower and slower with each attempt i gave to start it. I hooked up to another car to jump it and when i tried starting it while being jumped the engine no longer cranks the only noise when i turn over the key is the sound of the starter spinning. Any ideas what could be the issue? I think the battery needs replaced that its not putting out enough power for the starter to engage flywheel abd crank engine. I had timing chain and tensioners replaced a year and a half ago and the alternator replaced 8 months ago.

Next things to check are the battery cables and the starter. Check the battery cables for corrosion at both ends and make sure they have a clean and tight connection.

sounds like the starter drive is broken or the flywheel teeth are stripped....take the starter out and inspect the flywheel teeth. if the teeth are ok...replace the starter.
