Default 1997 z24 cavalier battery drain

im new here and i bought a cavalier. after letting it sit overnight and tried to start it the next morning the battery was dead as a doornob. i unplugged 1 fuse at a time and the battery drain stopped when i unplugged the BATT 1 fuse or the INT LAMP. its not the battery because i plugged in a new one and it still starts to drain the battery. any ideas on what may be causing this. the guy we bought this from said that he installed the keyless entry himself. any help would be good

Sounds like the interior lamp is part of the problem. I don't think that 1 lamp would drain a good battery. I have accidently left the interior lamp on overnight and it started right up the next morning. There must be something else in that circuit that is draining the battery. Keep that fuse out and see what else doesn't work. There is probably some switch which is staying partially on and draining the battery.

I started a checklist of everything on that fuse. i crossed out the keyless entry, power mirrors, trunk lamp, map/reading lamps, glove box lamps, and over head lamps. im pretty sure that the illuminated entry isn't causing it because th lights turn off after the 15 seconds. the only thing it could be id the alarm moduel, warning chimes, and radio.

Keep checking and eliminating things until you get to the real problem.

figured out the problem. the stock stereo was bad and was drawing power. plugged in another one and it worked just fine. one more question. what could the cause the driving lights icon to blink in the dash. it blinks non stop unless i turn on the lights?
