Hello all,
I have a 2000 Cav with a 2.4 and can not get it started. Engine turns and tries to start but dies. I am thinking a fuel pump maybe ? I am also wondering if it could be a fuse or relay or fuel filter ? Is there somewhere online I can get a diagram of where the filter might be and the fuse for the pump ? Or could it be a coil pack ? Any help would be great !! Thanks.

have you checked the fuel pressure and volume? Its cheaper to do some testing than to start buying parts and without checking anything its just a guessing game.

 

Have not checked the pressure yet.

 

Did you recently attempt to change the radio?
I am having the exact same issue with my 2000 and am fairly certain it is in the PASSLOCK anti theft system.

Well, got it started and just hoped it was water in the gas or bad gas. put some Heet in it and let it run for about 15 minutes. car would de-accelerate and then accelerate. it died but restarted, tried driving up and down my street and no power. developed a huge knocking in the motor. the car sat for several months and was not taken care of as it should have been before I got it. only had 96,000 miles.

 

could just be spark knock, I'd be checking fuel pressure and some other simple checks before condemning the entire engine.
