Default 2000 Cavalier Signal Problems

My cavalier signals have been acting up lately. I've had this problem once before and somehow it resolved itself. When I pull the lever the signal work for maybe 2 or 3 blinks max. and then just shut off. The lights on the display don't blink and the signals on the outside don't work either. The hazards are fine and I've checked the fuses for the signals. Any idea what this could be?

my cavalier is a 1998. Yesterday I was driving and my signal started to blink fast. So I replaced the rear bulb. It worked but it still blinked fast. Then while I was driving the right side of my car all the signals wouldnt work. So I parked it. Today my son in law started my car and the all the signals were working. But before they started to work it would make a buzzing sound when I tried to use the signal. I keep blowing bulbs in the rear on the left.I have a trailor hitch spiced into my signal system. That was done tow years after I bought the car new...what do you think caused my system to fail on just the left..

I had this problem in my RS. You probably should replace the bulb sockets, they are most likely faulty. Do the sockets smell burnt?
