2002 cavalier fuel pump question
my fuel pump will not power on. i am testing the voltage to see what i am getting to the pump. I hooked up the meter to pins B&C on the harness with C being the hot wire and B being the negative. When i turn the key to the on positon i get 12 volts, but just for a second and then it goes back to zero. What i noticed is when i hear the relays click, thats when i get my 12 volts, then the relays click again and the voltage goes away. im assuming the 2nd click is the relays shutting back off. My question is, are the relays supposed to do that? and if not what should i look into doing to fix this?
no, when i put the key to the on postion, (not attempting to start it) all the lights light up, then they all go away except for the check engine light, seat belt light, oil light, and battery light. The battery is fine, i just have it hooked up to the charger so im figuring thats why that light it on
yeah it will crank, but the problem is the fuel pump will not come on at all. theres no noise at all coming from the fuel pump when i put the key in the on position. the pump will not prime or do anything, but i know the pump is good cause if i run a direct 12V to it, it powers on. It is getting 12 volts, but just for a second then its back to 0 volts. and the reason for that is the fuel pump relay clicks on, then about 2 seconds later it clicks off. I checked the fuze and i am getting 12V through the fuze and that does not go down to zero, its a constant 12 V at the fuze.
i ran a jumper in place of the relay, still didnt do anything. Is the fuel pump supposed to get a constant 12 volts when you turn the key to the on positon? Or is it just a quick 12 volts for like 2-3 seconds? Cause i am getting the 12V for about 3 seconds and then the relay clicks again and it drops back down to 0 volts. Wasnt sure if that was right or not. But if that is right, then for some reason the fuel pump is not priming. It isnt making a sound at all

When you turn the key to run, you should get 12v for about 2 seconds, then back to nothing. This is so the fuel pump can shoot fuel up to the engine for quick starting, but the fuel pump doesn't constantly run if the engine is not on.
During cranking the pump should also have 12v, and also with the engine running.
