Default 2002 Gas Guage Erratic

Gauge often goes to "E" when not empty. can i get to the top of the tank to check the sending unit from inside the car or do i have to drop the tank?

I just had my gas tank out, and the fuel sending unit is external to the fuel pump module, attached to the outside of it. I tried messing with the contacts to get a reliable resistance in the output, but no luck. Put a new fuel pump and strainers in, and shoved it all back in. My gauge still will read full until there is less than two gallons in the tank, then will swing from 1/4 to full, finally settling down to read about 1/3 when the tank goes dry. Just have to get used to it, I guess, because I couldn't find a replacement at AutoZone, OReilley, etc. Maybe a dealer would sell one for a million dollars...

Default Erractic Guage

I heard the cause of this is sulfer build up on the sending unit and if you use chevron techron plus fuel additive a few times its suppose to clean them up and fix the problem. SeaFoam works too but not as good from what I hear.
