our 95 cavalier 5speed standard got stuck in 3rd and wouldn't shift out. Drove home in 3rd, then put it in the garage. The gears can be changed by manually pulling the cables( and the shifter moves to the right places when you do this) but the shift stick is useless. Does the cable need to be replaced? can it be tightened for a temporary fix? Any advice appreciated.
