Default 97 cav died and wont start

hey everyone..i have a 1997 cavalier and i was driving to school and went to pass a car and made it half way around and my car died. pulled over and it cranked over fine and then nothing. brought it home and the battery ground broke. fixed that and it now turns over but wont start. the air box gets a little gas to it from pumping the pedal. i have yet to check spark but what would you guys think it would be?

We need more info before we can even start to guess what's wrong. Is this a 2.2? Fuel injected? How do you get gas to the "air box" with fuel injection? What battery ground broke, the cable? Is that why it died on the road? Check for spark and get back.

a broken cable shouldn't have caused it to die. most cars can stay running without the battery even connected because of the alternator.
