Default 98 2.2 problems.

the G/F has a 98 4 door auto cavi with the 2.2l in it. Has about 74k on it. Problem is when it starts in the morning or after sitting awhile its really hard to start. Ive replaced the spark plugs and wires, but it still does it. Once its running its fine. Also today the ABS light came on. the SRS light flashed and everyone in a while it will throw a CEL. only code Autozone could give me was EGR. Any Ideas????

it also makes a rattling sound when it's running. since the ABS light came on, it's a little harder to brake.

one time while driving it jerked forward and back a few times a month ago, i had to pull over, stop, and recrank.

the check engine light comes on randomly. the cranks normal occassionally, but most days i have to hold it down until it crank and sometimes it sounds like it's started with the key turned all the way, but it hasn't.

*not to mention: i've had it for almost 3 years and before i got it, it sat up a lot for 5 years.

I have a similar problem with my '99 2.2l Cav. Sometimes it just takes a little bit longer to start up than other times. I had the fuel filter replaced, that didn't do it. I've had people tell me to try spark plugs or the wires, but since that didn't work for you, I'm out of ideas. Maybe the starter is going?

it could be the injectors
they could be leaking into cylinder
while it sets
or while after u ran it for a while
they warm up and leak more

since it sat for awhile
they could of gone bad

u probably could just check them
maybe
just take them out and set them in a cup or a zip lock bag
for like over night
and see if any fuel leaks out

maybe i dunno

good luck
