99 convertible 2.4, floor shift automatic.....

Found out shift cable is broken.....any advice on where to find repair info? I'm helping out an old guy (75) who doesnt hear very well.

1- how to get console apart?.......got top half, half way.........but forward half seems stuck together......

2----do I need to take out floor shift lever? How?

3- will shaft cable pull thru firewall OK?.......

4-is there any adjustment for new cable, or just hook up each end....
