Default engine swap question

i have a 2000 cavalier that i use as a daily driver that recently took a major dump on itself. i have a found a 2.2 and transmission from a low mileage cavalier for a real good price. will this engine and trans work in my car? what would be different that i would have to change to make it work properly?

What engine and trans does your cavalier currently have in it ? It's either going to be the 2.2 ohv 2200, or the 2.4 twin cam ld9. If it already has a 2.2 it would be a straight swap as long as the 2.2 is from a 95-02 cavalier. If it has the 2.4 ld9, you would need engine, trans, wiring harnes, pcm, axles and possibly front wheel hubs/spindles, insrument cluster and dash wiring.

Sometimes it will say the type of transmission on the bottom of the transmission pan. 3T40 = 3 Speed auto. 4T40-E = 4 Speed auto. You could also use the VIN decoder on this site. Just put in your vin and it will tell you what type of transmission your car came with from the factory.
