right now, i have a 98 base cavi (automatic) w/o tach instrument cluster. and i got ALOT of questions. the problem i'm having with the cluster now is that the light behind the speedometer burned out (i hope)...so now when i drive at night, i can't see how fast i'm going, how much gas i got...or the engine temp (all the other lights, such as turn signal, e-brake, etc. work)

1-what's the part number to the bulb(s) and should i do it myself or get professional help? i recently took of the dashboard and took out the cluster, but i couldn't get the backpart off (i just feared ripping a gauge/needle out)

2-is there ANY aftermarket instrument clusters out there? (i want the WHOLE thing, not just the face) if there is, would someone mind giving me a link?

3-would it be possible to just take one outta another cavi (example, 98 z24 w/tach)? would the tach work?

4-lets say i do get a new/used instrument cluster...i heard that you have to document it that you changed the cluster...is that true for pennsylvania?

thnks for looking/answering...you dont have to answer EVERYTHING...but the 2nd and 4th ones are the ones im really wondering about (id rather get a new cluster...but ill get an old cluster and just throw a new face on it)

 

Just for starters did you double check to make sure you didn't hit the dimmer switch by accident?

 

lol yeah, it's also not a fuse problem either. the light REALLY did go out

 

I'm thinking it's something else. It would absolutely crappy luck to have every bulb burn out simultaneously... you know what I mean? There is more than just one bulb in there. More than 10 probably.

 

10 lights? it's just the light behind my speedometer, fuel gauge, and temp gauge.

ALL the other lights still work. the turn signals, check gauges light, check engine light, ebrake, abs light, high beams, daytime lights, everything are still fine...

 

Probably not 10 just behind those, but several bulbs.

 

well the face to the cluster wont come off without a fight..and i dont wanna rip it and mess up the gauges...so i'm debating on getting this (http://www.slickcar.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=6952)or getting an old z24 instrument cluster...

but thats why i posted the question of whether the tach will work...or if i gotta go to the dmv and let them know. i dont know how anything works lol

 

You just need to be careful. The link isn't for a new cluster, so either way you'll be taking it apart. That's for a new face and maybe, maybe, some bulbs. I would contact them first. Or talk to HotSauce on here. He does LEDs on Cars. You could get a JY cluster for now and send yours to him to have him drop in LEDs.
