Default Radio and speaker help ('93 cav)?

My '93 Cavalier 2 door coupe is all stock. I'd like to upgrade the radio just a little.

1. Do people normally keep the same speaker wires when installing a budget system?
2. Do people keep the speakers and just change the headunit?

This car was free. It only has 48K on the clock and I love the MPG's. It's a 3rd car so I just want to keep it simple.

1. YES
2. YES

You can get an aftermarket harness adapter for most GM vehicles that will adapte to your new head unit, this will make installation very easy with no wire splicing.

Now, if you want to run different speakers, for tweeters, midrange and bass,.then I would recommend you upgrade your speaker wires to newer copper shield lines for the best audio quality.

Also, should you decide to install a unit with a secondary amp, you may also be required to installed noise filters on the power line from the alternator to the head unit to remove static feed back or noise.

In some extreme cases you will be required to upgrade your alternator and fuses for a more complex system, and even running an aux battery for power.

However, if your just running on the KISS principle, that is Keep It Simple Stupid, then just swap the head and have a nice day.
