Shift cable repair on Automatic trans
Common problem that most are aware of. Just thought to post a few tips that made the job easier for me.
The engine-side plastic bush fell apart and had to be replaced. Access to the cable end was improved by unplugging the large wiring plug on the brake master cylinder. Also removed airbox, battery and transmission filler plug.
After trying and failing to snap the new bush into place using channel locks I ended up using a large pair of vice grips with a few layers of duct tape on the jaws that faced the bush, so as not to damage it. A little grease seemed to help it snap into place.
02 Cav, still runs great!
