Default Stuck Sunroof

I have a 2004 Cavalier with sunroof feature installed. It worked for a week or so and then started stopping halfway open and then wouldnt shut and it eventually just stuck open. Im not too familiar with what could be causing it to be doin this other than the timing chain and im not sure how to get this working again if its at all possible. Anything is helpful so please post even if your not sure bout it. i just neeed an answer and i plan on publishing my results if possible after i figure it out .

I have the same problem with my 97 z-24 was 1/4 way closed and it just stopped working I can hear the motor still moving if I push the button so not sure if it fell off the track or what happened. If you find out what happened or how one can get to the motor please do share?

Default 2004 Suburban1500 Z-71 broken sunroof

I have heard strange "wind' noises from the sunroof intermittently in the past two months. I noticed today that the glass was closed but the roof panel covered in cloth hadn't closed and I couldn't pull it forward. Then I tried to open the sunroof using the switch. The black frame (or plastic seal?) bent inward making a terrible noise. Fortunately I reversed direction on the switch and the glass portion closed completely. I think the bent plastic might be a frame. Does anyone know how to replace the frame or fix it?

Alright so i got my sunroof fixed by a retired GM mechanic and when i talked to him about it he said the module couldve been bad but he wouldnt know till he looked at it. Basically to get to the sunroof motor your going to have to drop the entire headliner. So all the little trim pieces are the first to come off then you just pull down and it should come down with little trouble. once down your gonna need to retime the motor. Its easier to do with the glass off but you dont have o take it off. once its retimed you can start putting all the pieces of your interior back together. I would make sure i had someone that knew how to retime it before i started this little endeavour. Allso the only reason the guy tha helped me said it might be the module was because the car was damaged on the front end and that it may not have blown the airbags but it may have still killed the control module. As for replacing the frame, I'm sure your gonna have to find out if you can get an aftermarket piece since im more than sure GM will not sell a single piece of the sunroof. You may end up getting stuck buying an entirely new sunroof. the only thing i can suggest is go look at a srac yard and find on with an undamaged sunroof and see if theyll let you buy just that piece if you can in fact get just that part.

I looked into the issue more and found out that there are two parts to this. Theres the motor and the mechanism so you may hear the motor whirring but the mechanism may not be working properly. It could be that you have a loose connection thats causing that or the mechanism may be broken which in that case i would go to a scrap yard and they should have one for about 50 dollars or so.

Thanks for all the information. I am unable to do any of this until I have free time from school and work that way I can devote some time once I start this project.
