Default Throttle Converter?

My first post!

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I bought a Cavalier convertible a month ago and all of a sudden it makes a choking sound when I turn on the ignition. A slight shudder is felt when I cruise at 40mph. Also during stop and go traffic the car gets a little hot, but not severely. My guess is the throttle converter. The engine knocks every once in a while too....

Any idea what can be happening?

year, engine?

if you think the shudder is from the t/c engaging check for a relay for fuse that you could remove to keep it off; this would allow you to rule it out.

the running hot issue could be a number of things...fans, thermostat. the most common for the 2200 engine is restricted heater core.

diagnosing the noises without hearing them is pretty difficult.
