Default ticking 2.2

I bought my son a 1995ChevyCavalier. It has the 2.2 with 186,567 miles on it. Should probably be dead by now, but it runs good. Goes up steep hills without losing power, transaxle shifts good, but it ticks, (doesn't appear to burn oil, my OCD checking it constantly, or leak) several people tell me it's a bad valve lifter. Can I fix this myself (I'm fairly handy) or will I be opening Pandora's Box? How detrimental is it just to leave it as is? Steve

Lifters are fairly hard to change. If you are sure thats what that is. You might wanna check the compression to make sure that valve is seating correctly and an incorrect valve seal can cause a slight tap. You need to rule out anything it can possibly be before you start replacing lifters.[/align]
