Default How do I read a VIN #?

Howdy, 1st time poster. My buddy just bought a 69 elCamino SS 396 with a VIN # of 136809K392432.
Can someone assist me interpreting this VIN?

Thanks! Mark

Your number is not a valid vin number. It has to be 17 characters long. There is a vin decoder in the tools tab in this forum.

The VIN isn't usually placed on the rear door. It's most often located under the driver's side windshield, on the driver's door pillar, or under the hood on the body.

The VIN can tell you basic things like model, year, assembly plant, and engine type. In your case, it's a 1969, SS package, and Kansas-built (the letter K).

The VIN indicates this is a 1969 Chevrolet El Camino V8, assembled in Kansas City, and the "SS 396" indicates a 396 cubic-inch big block. For more information, you can order a window sticker by vin free at https://carfast.express/en/window_sticker with the original equipment information.
