Default 1985 Chevy C-30 454 intermittent stalling

Truck will run for 4-5 miles then stall, like it runs out of fuel. If it sits for 30 minutes will start back up and do the same. Any ideas would be appreciated.

There is a noticeable difference when an engine shuts down running out of fuel as compared to loss of ignition like when you shut the key off.

It does sound like it is losing ign power.

If you check for spark when it shuts down and it is absent, that would confirm an ign system concern.

It could start with the pick up coil in the dist, defective ign. coil, or even an ign sw prioblem.. Checking for loss of signal area will determine where the problem lies.

I have changed everything in distributor. If it is ignition switch, will it still crank? I have checked for power to distributor immediately after stall and there is power there. When it stalls, usually I am at a stop and idle gets real low and then when you step on gas it sputters and then quits. Starter will crank right away but won’t start.

Welcome to the forum. If it's fuel injected, monitor the fuel pressure before, during, and after shut down.

Moving to the classic pickup section of the Forum where you will get more views and possible answers.
