Default Ignition Problem

I'm having a heck of a problem with our 56 3100. It has a V8. I just installed a 22 Circuit Wiring Kit. The igition wire runs to the ballast resistor per instructions. Also installed a Powermaster one-wire alternator with its wire running directly to the battery. The motor started right up! Then it started to misfire and died. The new points were fried. I filed the points and recapped them and the motor started up and then died just like before. I noted the ballast resistor was extremely hot! What's going on?
