Default Ignition problem?

(1990 chevy beretta 2.2)
my ignition went out awhile back and i couldnt turn it off, it was stuck in the on position, i drove it home and killed it. i unplugged the ignition wires, as the ignition was too hard to get out xD. so i made a switch for the on and acc. and a button to start.
it all works fine but the battery dies. but if i unplug the battery its good.
so is there something staying on? what would it be since i pulled the ignition wire?
thank you
