1992 Lumina Power Steering
To start off this is the car, not the van (as I have been constantly asked many a time) it uses a 3.1 V6 engine. The return line on the system, just behind the passenger side drive axle managed to get a hole put in it from knocking up against it so many times (the last shop we went to the mechanic didn't install it the right way). When that happened, we said screw it, the car was still drivable, so now almost 5 months later, the power steering pump not only locks up but in fact effectively destroys the pulley however, the belt is just fine ( I'll post pictures a little later). I was wondering how much it would cost to get this fixed at a mechanic's shop and how much it would cost to do it myself, and if it's worthwhile to fix it myself (I have some knowledge has to how things work and am a quick learner).
