IF you got a scaner its on the drivers side closeest to the door under the dash if you rubber burning smell you might want to check the belt chances are theres a pully set up

the weir part is tha it smells inside the car while the engine is on, not under the hood or in the engine area............ could be the transmission?

Could be something as simple as oil burning if you have a gasket leaking. The fumes could be picked up by the air intake of your HVAC system.
You need a scanner to retrieve the codes from the car. people say that local your local Autozone or Partsource do this for free

Yea autozone will pull the p codes for free but depending on what the code is they cant go into them as far as most shops can. Is the smell like rubber or oil or a sweet smell and you say its just inside the car only with air/heat on or off or both?
