I would like to avoid BCM Replacement
First of all I just wanted to say I know that I can ride around like this until the car blows up, but I would rather not, which is why I am here. I have a 2010 Chevy Cobalt. Base package.
By my best estimation, my Cobalt seems to have conveniently forgotten how to relearn the TPMS. It still reads three tires fine, however one of the tires the sensor died, It was one of my last originals, so no surprise there. I have a new one, and I can't get the relearn process to start (key on, hold lock/unlock). Now this process did work for this car at one time, but over the years it has gotten harder and harder to kick off. The last time I tried to do it I had to disconnect the battery for several hours, and then it let me do it. I tried that a few times now and that doesn't even work.
I would like to know if these options are indeed correct, and that I do absolutely understand/assume correctly.
By the way, if I am correct and I can just "rent" the software, HUGE kudos to Chevy for doing this. I feel the price is a tad high for an owner to work on their own vehicle, but I sincerely appreciate that they give us the option.

- Can I use Tech2 Software and manually modify the ID number of each TPMS sensor to the appropriate tire?
- Can I just purchase another BCM then use the Tech2Win software to reprogram the BCM?

doesn't sound like a bcm problem. tpm registration is done by the remote control door lock reciever not the bcm.
why are you needing to relearn the tpms? are you swapping in new wheel/tpms or just rotating the same 4 wheel set?
what tool are you using to register the tpms?

I am trying to relearn the TPMS with the 3 existing tires and 1 new one.
TPM registration can also be done by the menus when pressing enter and info. Here is the problem. The car knows I have TPMS sensors since it accurately shows the pressures in three tires, but doesn't know how to activate/enter learn mode. The TPMS Relearn option now isn't a menu option when going through the display, and when holding lock and unlock it won't chirp the horn to enter relearn mode.

the problem is you can't enter tpm learn mode.
to determine why you can't enter it thru the fob; you would have to start by seeing if any dtc are set?
I'm assuming the all fob other functions work and you have tried both fobs.
any shop with a scan tool (doesn't need to be a tech2 or dealer tool) can start learn mode but a registry tool is the best method to complete learning.

)I have a scan tool, but I assume you mean a bi-directional scan tool. Going back to my original question, could I just "rent" the Tech2Win software mentioned on the ACDelco site and do it myself?

#1 the system you are dealing with isn't powertrain so it can set faults and not turn the cel on but faults will be stored in the body. wireless ie fob. functions will set body codes.
#3 if the system is working properly; yes a scan tool will allow you to enter learn mode. if you trigger learn mode with a scan tool a registry tool is required to learn each tpm sensor...air pressure change won't work to register the sensor in this mode.
