Default '08 questions

I just picked up an'08 crew cab with the I5. I have two questions. When cold, there is a lot of "fan" noise from under the hood when first starting off. This seems to go away after the engine is warmed up. What is it related to? I have also noticed a lot of "blow-by" evidence under the hood. There seems to be a breather line somewhere that is leaking as I get a fine film of black stuff on the underside of the hood and on the engine components. Any ideas?

TIA

The fan noise would be normal as your vehicle is at high idle when you start it cold and it dies down to a preset level once the engine is warmed.

I'm not sure what to think about the black film though. I assume since it is an '08 you have a warranty on it right? Take it in and see what it is if you do. It could just be vinyl protectant build up from when they cleaned it up before you took delivery.
