i have 2 questions.

1. i'd like to drop my tahoe, a local shop quoted me $395 to cut the rear springs, replace the self-leveling shocks and adjust the torsion bars (re-align additional). for budget minded people, is this a good way to do it? i already have 20"s
2. i'm getting some rough idle, almost dying happening daily. dealer replaced the fuel filter last summer (how many are there), injectors cleaned 3 oil changes ago. could my fuel-pump be going out? should i get a new-fuel pump, filters and a throttle body cleaning?

1. cutting spings is really NOT the way to go to lower you ride. Period. I would never recommend it. Truly the best way is with a set of coils. It isnt just adjusting the torsion bars, either. The rubber stops on the front end play an important part in the ride quality. They would need to be trimmed a tad or replaced. I would use a kit. I looked a while back, and there were a few kits out there with very respactable prices. Eibach, I think, had a good priced kit with new snubbers on the front and new rear coils. Should be all you need.

2. when was the last time the plugs were checked/replaced? How 'bout the plug wires? It is also a slim possibility that the TPS is going bad.... but that is if you have the mechanical throttle body. My '04 is electronic, throttle-by-wire.

 

i agre with b1pig as well if you drop the front with the torsion bars it will mess up the camber of your tires ball joints and tie rod ends so it would not end up being a cheap drop in the long run. look on ebay you may be able to get the right stuff for the same price. i dont think i would go to a macanic that sugjested that u lowwer your truck like that. just my opinion.

 

alright dude, here's ur fix for the rough idle

pull the vacuum line off of the fuel pressure regulator as the vehicle is running or you could try with it not running, if fuel comes out, or it's wet in there, then the fuel pressure regualtor is leaking through the diafram into the vac and it's running rich .. . or you could have a vacuum leak.. if the dealer can't fix this problem, you are going to the wrong one cause there's truck are a piece of cake when it comes to a rough idle or a misfire. but then again.. i have also seen that there could be alot of rust in the fuel rails. so you need to the lines, rails and injectors
