2023 Colorado With L2R Engine Good or Not?
I have a 2023 Colorado with the low output 2.7 non turbo max engine. I bought it mistakenly, not aware at the time the difference in the "Turbo", "Turbo Plus" and "Turbo max" engines. I thought that all the versions of the 2.7 were the same and they could be tuned to obtain the HP and torque of the Turbo max engine. Turns out if you have the low output L2R engine you are SOL. It has weaker internals and cannot tow nearly as much as the better L3B engine used in the Turbo Plus and Turbo max engines. So I already know I can't tow- what I want to know is if there are any concerns long term with the weaker L2R engine? I am thinking to trade it already for one with the L3B engine to last past 100K miles. I have 23K on my L2R and have read the timing chains are weak and need to be replaced at 80-100K. I also do not see the difference in these engines discussed a lot and most seem to be unaware of these technical differences. Thoughts?
Well I don't feel so bad that no one seems to know this either. BTW the power difference is astonishing:
2.7 Turbo, non Turbomax L2R engine- measly 230 HP and 260 torque. No or minimal towing.
2.7 Turbo Turbomax L3B engine- 310 HP and 430 Ft Lb Torque. Can tow 7500 LBS. (This is the same engine used in the larger Silverado).
If any of you are in the market for a Colorado please be aware of this.
