Default ABS problem I think?

2004 Chevy Colorado Crew 106,000

I am having a problem when I step on the brakes, it feels like the ABS is engaging and sounds like it as well. there is no fault code showing up on the dash and it doesn't seem to diminish braking power and is intermittent, but has been becoming more frequent. I feel it through the pedal but also seems to be tied to the steering as well (a lot less frequently). If someone could shed some light on this issue I would be very grateful, as ABS is like black magic to me. Do I need a buy new brakes??? I will get payday loans for them because I haven't a lot of money now.

Thanks
