Default drive shaft rust

i recently bought a 2012 colorado w/11k miles, i looked under it the other day a noticed the drive shaft is covered in rust. my question is is this normal? i know that they make some metal that rusts on purpose and it acts as protection. is the drive shaft made from that metal or should i go to the dealer to get it checked out? any info appreciated

If it is just surface rust there is no problem. They all do it. If it is real bad and rusting deep into the metal then you have a problem. If it bothers you it can be cleaned, sanded and painted!
