Hi All, I just took delivery of a 21 Colorado and I want to install a dual band ham radio in it. I’m just wondering if there are any other hams with Colorados that may be able to give me a few pointers. I’ll be installing a radio with a remote head option and am mainly looking for ideas for getting power and antennas in an out of the cab and perhaps what you’re using for an antenna. Oh by the way thanks for letting me join in, I’m an older guy that’s has had a Chevy pickup in his yard since 1981, sometimes I owned more than one at a time ( one for winter one for summer) I just want to see what others may have done and void any mistakes that may have been made already.
Thanks in advance
Ben
Welcome to the forum! I picked up a new 2023 Silverado LT Trail Boss and I'm still getting used to the adaptive cruise control - I'm having trouble setting it to work properly with my 2022 Sierra towing setup, been playing with the sensitivity settings, but if you've got any tips, hit me up.
Well Thanks Oldchevy, I managed the install and thought I’d share what I did in case some other ham has the same question. I pulled my power for the radio straight off the battery
fuses
through the firewall
radio location
antenna location
I flew the antenna wire in the cab through the cab vent located directly below my antenna between the body and the cab then in the chase inside the door threshold to the front and untimely to the radio. I had pretty much the exact set up in my Silverado for years so I just did it again on the Colorado.
