Default Shift **** removal??

Hey, I have an '04 Colorado, 4 cyl. 5 spd, and i cant figure out how to get the shift **** off so i can put an aftermarket one on, does anyone know how????

There is an Allen head set screw at the base of the shift lever below the boot.

I found the allen head, but i cant get it to move an inch, any suggestions??

Make sure that you have the exact right size allen wrench and twist the be-jesus out of it, if that doesn't work then you can try using something to extend it like the closed end of a combination wrench.

ok, so i finally got that allen head to come loose, but when i did the entire shifter came off, i just wanna know how to get the **** itself off, not the whole shifter.

It does not seperate easily you will have to get creative, but at least this way you can take itnot your shop and figure it out.
