2014 serpentine belt melting
I have a 2014 Cruz Eco with 120k miles. My belt melted. What I mean is that the rubber on the belt was all over the inside of the hood, the back firewall, alternator, and everything else in the belt area. So I cleaned and replaced the belt, inspected all the pulleys to make sure they were not locked up. I let the car run for about 30 minutes and noticed that the engine seemed to be hot and watched the belt on the tensioner rubbing on the inside of the engine housing. I also noticed that the tensioner was bouncing rapidly. So I shut the engine off and started researching. I have not found any ideas other than changing the tensioner. I will be replacing the tensioner as the next step. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this before, or seen anything similar.
Here is a video showing the bounce and noise.
