Default TIMING belts?

I've asked this other places, but I'll try here.........
Do these engines use TIMING belts?

The 1.4 turbo has a chain driven valve train. See Wikipedia or GM's website.

all ecotec motors have chains. the only timing belts that come to mind are on some of the saab supplied v6's....

The new ecotec engines in the cruze are different. 1.4 chain, 1.8 belt.

I don't get why they do this, it does not make sense to make it one way, then to make it another way.

The same timing chain design could have been used on the 1.8L...

In my opinion, timing belts are just as good, but rubber does not last as long at an oiled chain and sprocket...


But then again, the turbo on the 1.4L is something else that can potentially wear out...lol
