I have a powerchip for my gas powered SUV, and it did dyno higher on HP/Torque. For me it really just "unlocks" some of the existing power, (and removes some of the stock limits, settings, mixes for some functions)

My brother had a 98 single cab stepside F-150, it had a 10-inch lift, sitting on 39.5 swampers. He'd bought a power programmer, I'll find out the brand shortly. He went from 8 to 15. Granted the 8mpg was a close estimate, the speedo was off a bit til he got the programmer. It was a beast in the mud though.

my 89 had a chip in it. My stepdad always called it a speed chip. He had it installed in 98 or 99, I think. With him driving it, he got 20mpg. That truck was built better than most from the factory I beleive. When i got the truck rebuilt the 350, a lil while later put a TH400 in it. With 300hp at the wheels, and my foot in it all the time I got 15mpg. 320,000miles on it when I killed it.
