'06 Equinox - no heat, slightly overheating

My 2006 Equinox has no heat and is slightly overheating (hand on temperature guage is slightly pass half-way mark). What could be the cause? Recently got an oil change and new air filter.

check to make sure the radiator is full. Fill it up and check for leaks if its low
