10 equinox ac off engine temp high

10 equinox ac off engine temp high
on my way home from work this morning I got about 3 miles down the road when a message popped up on the dash reading "a/c off engine temp too high" but the temp gauge was reading cold, and it stayed reading cold the 15 miles home. after I turned the car off the fan was still running. any clue as to what is going on?
