A friend of mine needs to replace the motor in her 2005 equinox. She doesn't have a lot of money so she asked me to help her find a used motor. My question is, what years can she put in this and will any 3.4 motor go in it? Just things I need to know before I find her one. (A mechanic will be checking whatever motor she buys and installing. If you are paying a mechanic to do the swap (this is just my 2 cents); the 2005 was a troubled model year for the nox and you may be gambling with quite a bit of good money - what else will they find after a used engine is installed.
Junk yards have a way to convert the various comparable/compatible engines.
Key point - keep your existing computers/intake manifold/fuel injector ect. Even a compatible engine may not be 'computer compatible' and then you'll be stuck with going to Chevy to get it fixed and that will be big $$.
I've had good luck with Jasper engines/xmissions - but I only did hobby cars.

 

What's wrong with it that warrants replacing the engine? To answer your question, only a 3.4L/3400 from a 2005-2006 Equinox/Torrent would be a direct swap. The 3400 from a 2007-2009 Equinox/Torrent apparently has some changes/differences and would not be a direct swap, but may be able to be used if you can find the differences and make it work.

A 3400 from any other GM model will not work.

Yes, it's a direct swap. AWD vs FWD doesn't make a difference with the engine.
