2005 Equinox Fuel Gauge
Hello,
I noticed on Tuesday that my engine light came on. I checked the fuel cap and sure enough it was just laying on top so I put it in tightened it and closed it. As of today the light is still on. Last night when parking I noticed my fuel gauge was pretty close to empty and figured I would get gas this morning. Well when I got in to leave for work this morning I noticed the gauge needle was on the 1/4 left line. Thought it was odd and by time i got to work it was between 1/4 and empty. When leaving work today as soon I turned it on the needle was on completely empty and my fuel light came on for about 30sec and turned off...after a few minutes sitting there I noticed the needle creeped up to between empty and 1/4. Could this be causing the engine light to stay on?? Does anyone have any suggestions to what it might be?
Thanks!

Evap monitors are not run continuously. The conditions to run the evap monitor have not been met; ie. evap monitor will not run with the tank below 1/4 tank or over 3/4 tank. Until that monitor runs and tests the evap system the code will not clear on its own.
check and clear the code with a scan tool or put some gas in the car and go for a long test drive enabling the criteria to run the monitor.
