Yesterday the wife said that when she got in her Equinox (2005) she could smell plastic burning and saw a small amount of smoke coming from the steering column. She drove the car home (about 15 miles) no problems. After a couple of hours after arriving home she looked out side and the headlights were on. Anyone have any idea what is going on with this? I have disconnected the battery and am looking for info hoping someone out the has had this problem before. Thanks

 

I traced the smoke directly to the solenoid that is mounted on the ignition housing (which is mounted on the steering column). Sorry, I'm replying so late--you probably got it fixed by now. If not, just reply. I'd be glad to help.
