Default 2006 Equinox shaking burning smell

Hello - At times when we have the A/C turned to high and all the way cold, our 06 Equinox will start shaking while driving down the street and becomes hard to turn and the A/C will stop blowing out cold air. Also when this happens there is a sharp burning / hot electronics / rubber smell. Is this a possible compressor issue, or does possibly the A/C need recharged and the compressor is freezing up? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

On the surface it might seem like you have more than one issue going on here, but insufficient power due to a bad alternator and/or battery might be causing all your issues. Take your Equinox to your local auto parts store to have the alternator and battery load tested.

I don't think there is an issue with the A/C system. The compressor shouldn't be freezing up unless it has too much refrigerant. This is not likely unless the A/C was recently serviced.
