I have a 2013 Equinox LTZ 6 cyl. with about 23,500 miles on it. No issues so far but this morning as I was driving to an appointment, I noticed my temp. gauge had dropped below it's normal level of about halfway to a little more than 1/8 below half. It stayed that way all the way to my destination (about 10 miles one way). When I got back into the vehicle to drive home, the gauge still read the same. I was not out of the car very long (about 30 minutes) and it remained that way until I arrived home. I was mostly on the freeways at 50-60 mph.
My question is: Should I be concerned about this issue? I am in Oregon and the outside temps have been in the 50's-60's during the day.
I am very conscientious and have all service performed on schedule. Last oil change, tire rotation and cabin filter change were about 2 weeks ago.
Any suggestions or solutions would be helpful.

 

May just be the water temp sensor - see if the radiator is hot after driving it awhile (do NOT open the radiator cap - just quickly touch the top of the radiator. If it is hot - replace the sensor.

 

My 07 did that at around 90,000 miles. The Thermostat had gone bad and failed open so the engine could never warm up (which I guess is better than failing closed and over heating). Eventually the check engine light came on with a message "engine hot ac off" as a result. The "engine hot" message sent me on a wild goose chase for 3 months before I figured out that was how the computer reported a cold engine. In your case it should be covered under warranty.
