What may be causing the car to chime?
I have a 2013 Chevy Malibu. I thought I had broken my key in the ignition and got a lock smith to take a look. He poked around in there and after that, my car thinks there is a key in the ignition. The car chimes when I open the driver door and there is no key in the ignition.

Our Equinox did the same thing. You need to replace the ignition switch (GM part number 23276089). There's a small button at the base of the switch that wears out and keeps the key-in circuit closed when it does. It's a relatively cheap part to replace, and installing it is really easy too on your car. You only need to remove the upper and lower steering column trim pieces to access & replace the switch. You'll need a torx screwdriver for the switch mounting screws. I'm not sure about the exact size, but it will be T15, T20, or T25.
