i have a chance @ a smokin deal on these tires for my 1997 Express 1500. Would they be a good fit for my van? Would they rub? Stock size says 235/75/15. They are Goodyear GSAs. They are to get me through the winter and spring when i plan on buying a new set of BFGs. But for now I wonder if they would do well through this winter.

235-75R15 vs 30x9-50R15 - Tire and Wheel Plus Sizing | Tire Size Calculator

The biggest diff is the wheel rim width and overall circumference. You will be going faster than your speedo says, and your city mileage will suffer, but hwy may be a little better.
But I would say close enough to not rub.

You need to make sure of the load range and weight rating.

Thanks Canucklhead, Where can i find out the load range and weight rating? I am not too worried about my city gas mileage since she is primarily a long range trip Girl and work is 15 minutes away for the odd time i drive Her to work.

Load range and weight are part of the code on the tires you are looking at, and what you require is on the door jamb sticker on the driver's side.

I have 245 75 16's on my 02 express and it calls for 225 75 16. So I am just a hair over 3% bigger as well. No rubbing, and no issues. I have never noticed a brake issue. As for mileage.....not a big diff either. Crap mileage is crap mileage.
Mine is a 8 bolt axle 3/4 ton, so it requires LT tires load range e.

These tires are load range B and weight rating 1565 lbs. Unfortunately there is no sticker on the driver's door jamb to tell me the tire ratings for this van. Where can I access this information? It is a 1997 Chevy Express 1500 Glaval Gladiator conversion van. Thanks for all your input Canucklehead. Where are you located up here in the GWN (Great White North)?

It appears that the correct load range for a 1500 is XL or C. So now your question is... Does a load range B equal or exceed an XL?


XL is a heavy passenger tire, while B is a light truck tire. Most load charts don't list the lbs for an XL.. But the XL tires listed for sale online show weight of 2205 lbs.


Not 100% sure on this, but those may be too light... will need some more research.

Load rating 108 is same as xl. 2205 lbls.
load rating 109 is range b.......2271 lbs.
Both come up as suitable for a 97 express 1500 ls passenger van.
I myself would always go higher than lower on load range.
You can contact a dealer for the exact info missing on your door sticker. Your van also has a base size tire which is only 215 75 15's......Maybe calling a tire shop will help too.
But to answer your question. It sounds like the super deal you were talking about might work out.
