Question "Normal" HEI distributor instead of "Electronic Spark Control"??

Hello everyone!

I have got a question that nobody can/will answer overhere (they don't know in Holland...)

The car is a G20 from 1981 with a carbureted 305 V8 and "Electronic Spark Control".
I want this complete stock distributor exchanged with a "normal" HEI distributor with mechanical and vacuum advance unit.

Is this possible?
The HEI distributor only works with + and - connector and vacuumhose, while the stock one has an extra 4-pole connector for the "spark" modul.

Are the measurements of these components the same for all Chevy smallblocks, so that I can exchange the two with no problem??
Or will I have to change something at the wiring too?

Thus, put the HEI in, connect + and-, hook up the vacuumhose, set up the timing and of we go? Is this possible???

Please let me know..

Thanks,

Kees
the Netherlands.

I had an old jeep switched over to HEI, and that is all that was necessary... along with the parts. I have no idea if a chevy is different or not.

I used an HEI kit specifically for the jeep engine.

If I use a HEI kit specifically for my engine then again they try to sell me one with "Electronic Spark Control"

I want to know if the normal HEI the same measurements has as the one thats in it.
Nobody can tell me that...

What about the Chevy specialists here on board??

Who is "they"? You want to find a HEI performance upgrade kit for that specific engine (if one exists). Depending on the kit you may have to change spark plug wires and change you plug gap. A good kit will come with instructions and what not.

This is what I used on my Jeep to give you an idea...

White Performance Detail Description

To answer your specific question... I don't have the answer.
